General Information on Pilotage - St. Lawrence River and Saguenay River

GENERAL INFORMATION

It is essential that an effective relationship be established and maintained between the pilot, the master and the bridge personnel to avoid misunderstandings and that false assumptions are maintained on both sides. As mentioned in the STCW convention, it is of primary importance that a continuous exchange of information takes place between the pilot, the master and the bridge personnel.

As the competent pilotage authority, the Laurentian Pilotage Administration (LPA) hereby wishes to inform all vessels of the pilotage procedures in effect in waters under its jurisdiction.

  • You are kindly requested to read the following, as this information will be useful to you throughout your travels in the Laurentian region waters and will not necessarily be repeated by the pilot.

  • The information presented in "Part 1" is complementary to the information that will be transmitted to you by the pilot during the information exchange period (MPX) that will take place before starting the trip.

  • The "Part 2" checklist provides a non-exhaustive list of points to be discussed before embarking on the trip. This verbal exchange of information between the pilot, the master and the members of the bridge team should continue throughout the movement of the vessel in our waters.
