Links from the LPA Web site are related to the mandate and objectives of the LPA site as a source of business information for Canadians or businesses operating in Canada. In general, the LPA may provide links to the following:

• Canadian government sites providing business-related information, programs and services;
• commercial business databases, including company directories, available free of charge;
• Internet/Web search engines and directories.

Links to Commercial Organizations

We generally do not provide links to commercial sites. Under some circumstances, the LPA will provide links to a commercial organization to provide clients with free information or services useful to a business, where such information is not available from non-commercial sites. The decision will be at the discretion of the LPA administration.

Request for a Link from the LPA Site

To request a link to be placed on the LPA Web site, please contact the LPA Administration by E-mail.

In your contact message, please explain how the proposed link relates to this policy and contributes to the objective and enhancement of the LPA. Ensure that a return contact name and E-mail address are included. If a proposed link meets the criteria stated in this policy, it may still be declined at the discretion of the LPA Administration. If a link is approved, the administrators of the target site will be informed and the link established.

A reciprocal link back to the LPA Web site is encouraged.

Guidelines when Linking to the LPA Site

Webmasters are recommended to follow these steps when establishing external links from your Web site to the LPA Web site:

• in addition to linking to specific pages within the LPA site, also provide a link to the LPA homepage(http://www.pilotagestlaurent.gc.ca);
• periodically check the integrity of the links to the LPA documents;
• LPA discourages the use of frames.

The Government of Canada and Laurentian Pilotage Authority are committed to providing visitors with web sites that respect their privacy. This page summarizes the privacy policy and practices on Laurentian Pilotage Authority Web sites:

• Laurentian Pilotage Authority Web sites do not automatically gather any specific personal information from you, such as your name, phone number or e-mail address. We would only obtain this type of information if you supply it by sending us an e-mail or registering in a secure portion of the site.
• All personal information created, held or collected by this department is protected under the federal Privacy Act. This means that at any point of collection you will be asked for consent to collect your information, and you will be informed of the purpose for which it is being collected and how to exercise your right of access to that information.
• Laurentian Pilotage Authority employs software programs to monitor network traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, or otherwise cause damage. This software receives and records the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the computer that has contacted our Web site, the date and time of the visit and the pages visited. We make no attempt to link these addresses with the identity of individuals visiting our site unless an attempt to damage the site has been detected.
• Laurentian Pilotage Authority does not normally use "cookies" to track how our visitors use this site or to determine sites previously visited.
